dMAT for engineering graduates

Is there a dMAT engineering syllabus, and what do engineering graduates face?

There is no dMAT engineering syllabus. Engineering, CS and IT graduates applying for a German Master’s from Summer 2027 must sit the dMAT, but they take the same paper as everyone else: a Core Module of Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares, then the General Academic Module.

Why engineering graduates are in scope

g.a.s.t. lists the disciplines whose applicants must sit the dMAT, and engineering — including computer science and IT — is one of them. It applies to Master’s applicants for the Summer 2027 intake or later going through APS India.

The trigger is the subject of your bachelor’s and your intake, not the Master’s you are applying to. An engineering graduate applying for a management Master’s is still in scope.

There is no engineering paper, and no engineering syllabus

The dMAT does not have subject-specific versions for APS India applicants. Everyone sits the same Core Module and the same General Academic Module, whatever their degree was in. Pages advertising a "dMAT engineering syllabus" are describing something that does not exist.

That is genuinely good news for the preparation question: there is nothing from your degree to revise. What the paper tests is reasoning under a clock, and the only thing that improves is how fast you recognise a question type you have seen before.

Where an engineering background helps, and where it does not

Mathematical Equations rewards fast mental arithmetic on small whole-number systems — comfortable ground if your degree involved a lot of it, but no calculator is allowed and nothing beyond substitution is required. Advanced engineering maths is not an advantage here; speed on simple sums is.

The General Academic Module is where a technical background can mislead. Its scenarios often look scientific, and the temptation is to answer from what you know about the subject rather than from what the passage or table actually says. Every applicant sits the same module, so no item can require your degree — and the option that sounds right to a specialist is frequently the distractor.

No. APS India applicants all sit the same paper: the Core Module, then the General Academic Module. There is no discipline-specific version and no discipline-specific syllabus.
