About the test

What is the TOEFL?

Who should take it

Students targeting universities in the USA and Canada, where TOEFL iBT is widely preferred as proof of academic English.

What it opens up

English-taught Bachelor’s, Master’s, MS and PhD programs — especially in North America.

TOEFL (the Test of English as a Foreign Language) measures your ability to use and understand English at university level. The internet-based test, TOEFL iBT, is administered by ETS and is one of the most trusted English-proficiency tests for admissions in the United States and Canada.

For Indian applicants, TOEFL is the natural alternative to IELTS — particularly for North American universities, many of which list a TOEFL iBT requirement. Typical cut-offs sit around 80–100 out of 120, with selective programs asking for higher.

The test is taken on a computer at a test centre or at home, and is fully integrated: speaking and writing tasks ask you to combine what you read and hear, mirroring real academic work. Scores are usually available within about 4–8 days and remain valid for two years.

How financing works

Fund the whole journey

TOEFL is charged in US dollars, so the fee and any retakes are an early dollar-denominated cost in your study-abroad budget. Folding test prep into a planned education loan keeps these upfront expenses from competing with your tuition savings.

Our financing partners fund the complete US/Canada study plan — tuition, living costs and pre-departure expenses such as TOEFL fees, coaching, application fees and the visa — through low-interest education loans with quick turnaround. Loans can be structured with or without collateral based on the university, loan amount and co-applicant.

A competitive TOEFL score also helps you apply to assistantship- and scholarship-friendly programs in North America, which can meaningfully reduce how much you ultimately need to borrow.

Loan eligibility, interest rates and amounts depend on your destination, course, co-applicant and lender. Figures on this page are indicative.

Both are widely accepted. TOEFL iBT is especially popular with US and Canadian universities, while IELTS dominates in the UK, Australia and Europe. Check what your target universities prefer, and pick the format that suits your strengths — TOEFL is fully computer-based and accent-American.
