What the dMAT actually looks like
No past papers, no toppers' notes — so here is the official format instead, straight from g.a.s.t.
90 min core, 30 min break, 90 min subject.
- Core Module, then a 30-minute break, then the Subject Module — three and a half hours in total.
- You may not take notes during the exam.
- Scored 0–200 per module with 100 as the average, plus a percentile rank against everyone who sat that date.
Figure Sequences
A figure shifts position, colour or orientation across a row of matrices by a fixed rule. You work out the rule and pick the matrix that comes next.
Mathematical Equations
Small systems of equations where letters stand for whole numbers, with exactly one solution. No calculator — this rewards fast substitution, not advanced algebra.
Latin Squares
A partly filled 5×5 grid where each letter A–E appears once per row and once per column. You deduce what belongs in the marked cell.
General Academic Module
A short academic scenario — often with a table, figure or passage — followed by single-choice questions. Every APS India applicant sits this module, not a field-specific one.

A new standardized aptitude test by g.a.s.t., part of the APS documentation for selected Indian Master’s applicants to Germany.
Master’s applicants for Summer 2027 or later with a bachelor’s in engineering (incl. CS/IT), commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business or management.
Bachelor’s and PhD applicants, Winter 2026/27 intake, anyone whose APS was completed before 29 June 2026, and partnership/exchange programme students.
Registration runs 29 June–15 September 2026; the exam is 26 September 2026; results are released 12 October 2026.

3.5 hours, English, computer-based at test centres. A Core Module (90 min) with three subtests — Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares — then a 30-minute break, then the 90-minute General Academic Module. All questions are single-choice, no calculator, and you may not take notes.
Figure Sequences (20 items, 25 min): work out the rule by which a figure moves or changes across a row of matrices and pick the next one. Mathematical Equations (20 items, 25 min): small systems where letters stand for whole numbers with exactly one solution — fast substitution, not advanced algebra. Latin Squares (16 items, 20 min): a partly filled 5×5 grid where A–E each appear once per row and column.
