What is the PTE?

PTE Academic (the Pearson Test of English) is a computer-based English-proficiency test built for university admission and student visas. The entire test — including speaking — is taken on a computer, and responses are scored by Pearson’s automated engine rather than a human examiner.
For Indian students, PTE is a strong alternative to IELTS and TOEFL, especially for Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Canada and Ireland. It is well known for its fast turnaround: scores are often available within 48 hours.
The test reports an overall score on a 10–90 scale, along with scores for communicative skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). It is accepted by thousands of universities and is approved for visa purposes in several major destinations, with results valid for two years.
