How much can a student work and earn part-time in Ireland?

On Stamp 2 you can work 20 hours a week in term and 40 in the holidays. At the 2026 minimum wage of €14.15 an hour, that is about €283 a week in term and €566 in holidays, before tax. It helps with living costs, but never plan on it to pay tuition.

Your PPS number

  2. 2When to applyOnce you are in Ireland with an address, usually after you start looking for work. An employer can ask for it on your first day.Official source: Citizens Information: non-EEA students working

Be realistic

Don’t rely on it for tuition

Part-time income will not pay your tuition

Even at the full 20 hours, term earnings cover part of your rent and food, not your fees. Jobs can take weeks to find after you arrive, and the visa office will not count this income toward your funds. Arrive with tuition paid and €10,000 in living funds.

Yes, like any employee, though many students on low part-time earnings pay little after tax credits. Get a PPS number, register your job with Revenue through myAccount, and check your first payslips. Until your employer has your tax details, you may be charged emergency tax, which you can reclaim.
