How the Modified Bavarian Formula works
German grades run in the opposite direction to Indian ones. 1.0 is the best grade and 4.0 is the lowest pass; anything above 4.0 has failed. A German 1.7 is a strong result, not a weak one — this is the single thing Indian applicants misread most often.
The formula places your grade proportionally between your own system’s pass mark and its maximum. It needs three numbers: the best grade achievable in your system, the minimum needed to pass, and what you actually scored.
