Ireland PR for Indian Students: From Master’s to Stamp 4 (2027)

Updated on Written by Amit SouravReviewed by Ashmita Agarwal

Applications for January 2027 are open. Popular courses can close once full, so apply early. Your AdmitVerse counsellor will confirm the current timeline for your course.

How do Indian students get PR in Ireland?

Ireland has no visa called "PR". The equivalent is Stamp 4, which lets you live and work without an employment permit. The usual route is a one-year master’s, then Stamp 1G stay-back, then a Critical Skills Employment Permit job: after 21 months on it you can apply for Stamp 4, about 3–4 years from arrival.

Citizenship

Irish citizenship later on

Citizenship by naturalisation is commonly described as needing 5 years (1,825 days) of reckonable residence, and time on Stamp 2 as a student is generally not reckonable, while Stamp 1G, Stamp 1 and Stamp 4 time is. These rules are detailed and change: confirm on irishimmigration.ie before you plan on a date.

Family

Spouse and dependants

Dependants are generally not permitted on a student visa, so plan to come alone while you study.

Once you hold a Critical Skills Employment Permit, your spouse or partner can live and work in Ireland on a spouse/partner permission, under rules that are reported but not yet verified by us. Confirm the current permission and its name on irishimmigration.ie before you apply.

Not by that name. Ireland’s equivalent is Stamp 4, a permission to live and work without an employment permit, and long-term residence after that. Graduates usually reach Stamp 4 after 21 months on a Critical Skills Employment Permit, about 3–4 years from arrival. Confirm the current rules on irishimmigration.ie.
